Park & Ride

Please see below for the Park & Ride map or click here for the Durham County Council Park and Ride route mapDurham's Park & Ride service costs £2.00 per adult - this entitles you to an all day ticket (from any of the Park & Ride sites). Under 16s may travel free when travelling with an adult (21+).

The three regular Park and Ride sites, at BelmontSniperley and Howlands, will be operating.  These Park and Ride sites will be open on Friday 30th November and Saturday 1st December between 7am and 7pm, and on Sunday 2nd December between 9am and 6pm.

An additional Park and Ride site is running at New College, Durham for Saturday 1st December ONLY.  The address for this is New College Durham, Framwellgate Moor Campus, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, DH1 5ES.  This Park and Ride will be open on Saturday from approximately 10am to 6pm with buses running between New College Durham and Durham Radisson Hotel.

Special arrangements for Charity Preview Evening on Thursday 29th November.  On Thursday 29th November, there will be no road closures in central Durham and the Cathedral bus will still run up to Palace Green, with an extended timetable to coincide with the charity preview evening's hours (until 7pm).  Belmont Park and Ride will stay open until 7.45pm, allowing visitors to take the last Cathedral bus from Palace Green at 7pm to the City Centre, and connect to the last Belmont Park and Ride bus at 7.15pm from outside the Gala Theatre.

PLEASE check with your driver when the last return bus to your Park and Ride leaves the City Centre.

Park & Stride

Park & Stride is available on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December.  Park free at County Hall, and walk from there into the city centre.  The postcode for County Hall is DH1 5UL.  Please use this map for directions.

Road Closures

There will be road closures each day affecting Durham Market Place, and all the roads through it.  These roads will be closed on Friday 30th November and Saturday 1st December between 10am and 6.30pm and on Sunday 2nd December between 10am and 6pm.

The Cathedral Bus will NOT run to Palace Green on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Taxi Service to Palace Green (for those with walking difficulties)

Due to the weight limit for traffic on Prebends Bridge, we are not able to run the Accessible Minibus service which has been run in previous years from the city centre to Palace Green/ Durham Cathedral.  This year, we will have a number of taxis operating on a loop.  The taxi departure point in the city centre will be just below the Market Place.  It will be between Next and St Nicholas' Church, on the Claypath side of the road closure.  PLEASE NOTE: the taxis will be able to take folding wheelchairs ONLY, that is ones that can be folded up to fit in the boot of the taxi.  There will be a limited number of taxis, and the duration of the round trip will depend on traffic volumes.  It is anticipated that each taxi could take up to 40 minutes to complete the round trip.

Shopmobility (located in the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre Car Park) provides mobility scooters and will be open on both Friday 30th November and Saturday 1st December (closed Sunday 2nd December).  It is advised to check availability and book in advance.  For further information, call 0191 386 8556 or please click here.

Durham Pointers Service

Durham's award-winning volunteer 'Pointers' (you can't miss them in their bright pink tabards) will be present in the Market Place each day of the Festival, on hand as virtual signposts to help with directions and answer any queries you may have.
